'Yin-yang' expresses the balance of interconnected opposites. A square and two circles demonstrate geometry rendered in simple forms, filled with balance and contrasts. Colors cover the spectrum, with a nod to black and white.
Design is an emotional experience for me: when color play enters that process and it is good, the art has a rhythm. That is what happened as four quadrants of colors and materials: blocked, woven, arrayed, and appliqued were built. When I fastened them together the world was singing.
Materials: Commercial leather and vinyl samples, dogfood bags, handwoven wool scraps, bone buttons, wing nuts, metal and nylon washers, cotton batting, commercial cotton backing and threads
The color wheel is a continuous flow of shades, tints, and colors in a progressive transition. “Chroma Revolution” is a free-form approach to that concept. Traditional Nine Patch quilt blocks become the surfaces that reflect light and suggest undulations in the material. The vertical edges are designed to be fastened together, forming a continuous revolution of chromatic blocks. This piece can be displayed flat on the wall or in the round, suspended from above.
Materials: hand dyed fabrics by other, cotton batting, fusible interfacing, commercial backing, cotton thread.
Techniques: artist drawn pattern—transferred to interfacing, machine pieced blocks, machine quilted, faced edge.
In private art collection.
Scraps from previous projects are scattered around my studio. The Benefit Auction is the perfect place to connect them. The leftovers in this piece come from work completed in 2011 with wool roving felted into the fabric and 2023 leather assemblies. Turning the wool on an angle, revealed; leather that exploded, revealing the wool in a smoke/dust filled environment.
Materials: Commercial leather samples, commercial upholstery wool, pearl cotton and cotton thread.
Families shift and change, moving through time and space always connected to one another.
